Diagnostic Recommendation

All 4 injectors exhibit balanced return volumes within normal OEM tolerances. No control valve wear or excessive internal bypass detected. If rail pressure faults persist (DTC P0087), inspect fuel metering unit (IMV/VCV) and rail pressure sensor.

Top Symptoms of High Injector Return Flow

Extended Crank / Hot No-Start (DTC P0087 / P1011)

When control valve ball seats wear down, excessive fuel escapes directly into the low-pressure return line during cranking. The high-pressure pump cannot generate the 200-250 bar minimum rail pressure required for the ECU to authorize injection, causing long cranking times or complete no-start when engine is hot.

Rough Idle & Cylinder Misfire (DTC P0300-P0308)

An injector with excessive backleak loses control pressure above the command piston, delaying needle opening and reducing delivered fuel quantity. The ECU attempts smooth-running cylinder balancing until it reaches maximum trim limits.

Limp-Mode Under Heavy Acceleration (DTC P0088 / P2293)

Under high throttle demand (1600-2000 bar rail pressure), a worn control valve leaks disproportionately more fuel. Rail pressure drops below target setpoint, prompting the PCM to trigger safe mode and cut turbo boost.
