Product Overview

WORKSHOP NOTICEECU Calibration / IMA Coding Required

This injector requires 6-8 digit calibration code programming (IMA / QR code) into the vehicle ECU (using Bosch KTS, Lexia/Diagbox or equivalent diagnostic equipment) following replacement to balance cylinder fuel delivery and prevent DTC P0300 misfire codes.

The Bosch 0261500162 (OE 06L906036K) is the benchmark HDEV-5.2 high-pressure gasoline direct injection (GDI) fuel injector for Volkswagen and Audi EA888 Gen 3 1.8T and 2.0T TSI/TFSI engines. Capable of operating at continuous rail pressures up to 200 bar (2900 psi), this solenoid-activated injector features a 6-hole asymmetric laser-drilled nozzle designed to optimize fuel air stratification directly across the spark plug gap. Installed on iconic performance platforms including the Golf GTI Mk7, Golf R, Audi S3 8V, and Porsche Macan 2.0T, it cures chronic cylinder misfires (P0300/P0301-P0304), cold-start stumbling, and fuel-trim deviations caused by clogged or leaking factory injectors.

Before You Order

TEFLON SEAL SIZING MANDATE & LSPI WARNING: Never install a GDI injector with an uncalibrated Teflon combustion chamber seal. Use the T10133 expanding cone and sizing sleeve to shrink the seal into its groove; uncalibrated seals shave against the cylinder head bore during insertion, resulting in combustion blow-by and melted injector bodies. Leaking or dripping injectors on EA888 Gen 3 provoke Low-Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI), shattering piston ring lands under low-RPM high-boost load.

Installation Tips

Tools needed: VW/Audi T10133 Teflon seal installation cone, sizing sleeve, and slide hammer puller kit, Torque wrench calibrated for 8-10 N·m, Bore brass cleaning brush and lint-free cotton swabs, Clean engine oil or dielectric grease for Viton rail O-rings

  1. Relieve high-pressure fuel rail residual pressure via VCDS/ODIS or by cracking the HPFP outlet flare fitting with absorbent shop towels.
  2. Remove the intake manifold on transverse EA888 Gen 3 applications to expose the aluminum direct injection fuel rail.
  3. Disconnect the 4 wiring harness electrical connectors from the injector bodies.
  4. Remove the four fuel rail retaining bolts evenly; attach the T10133 slide hammer puller to the fuel rail and extract the rail and injectors straight out.
  5. If an injector remains stuck in the cylinder head, attach the T10133/1 puller adapter and gently slide-hammer the injector directly upward along its central axis.
  6. Clean carbon varnish from the cylinder head injector bore using a brass seat brush; blow out all debris with compressed air.
  7. Cut away the old white Teflon combustion seal using a plastic pick; never scratch the brass injector seal groove.
  8. Slide the new Teflon seal over assembly cone T10133/2 into the groove. Immediately slip sizing sleeve T10133/3 over the seal and rotate back and forth for 3 minutes to shrink the seal back to diameter.
  9. Install a new Viton O-ring onto the fuel rail inlet neck lubricated with clean engine oil (never lubricate the combustion Teflon seal).
  10. Seat the injectors into the fuel rail with their locking clips engaged, position the assembly into the cylinder head bores, and push firmly until seated.
  11. Torque the fuel rail mounting bolts in a criss-cross pattern to 8-10 N·m, reinstall the intake manifold, prime fuel system, and perform leak checks.
Tips & Warnings:
  • Teflon Seal Lubrication Prohibition: Never apply oil, grease, or WD-40 to the lower Teflon combustion ring. Teflon requires clean, dry contact with the cylinder head bore to expand properly under engine heat and seal 200 bar of combustion chamber pressure.
  • Sizing Sleeve Dwell Time: After pushing the Teflon ring onto the injector tip, it remains severely stretched. You MUST leave sizing sleeve T10133/3 clamped over the ring for at least 3 minutes, then leave the injector installed in the head for 15 minutes before engine startup to let the PTFE relax.
  • Slide Hammer Extraction Angle: Always pull direct injectors perfectly perpendicular to the cylinder head surface. Prying sideways with a pry bar bends the stainless steel nozzle tip or snaps the plastic electrical connector body.

Frequently Asked Questions

QWhat diagnostic symptoms indicate a failing 0261500162 GDI injector on EA888 Gen 3?

Common symptoms include cold-start rough idle and misfires (P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304), black smoke on initial start-up, long cranking after sitting warm due to injector drip, and positive long-term fuel trim (LTFT) adjustments due to clogged nozzle micro-orifices.

QCan I clean direct injection GDI nozzles with an ultrasonic bath?

Ultrasonic cleaning can remove superficial carbon from the exterior tip, but internal varnish deposits inside the 200-bar micro-orifices cannot be restored once internal needle seats erode. When misfire counters persist under high engine load, replacement with new Bosch OE injectors is required.

QDo Bosch 0261500162 direct injectors require IMA coding into the ECU?

No. Unlike common rail diesel injectors that require 6-digit or 7-digit IMA calibration codes, Bosch HDEV-5.2 gasoline direct injectors are manufactured to extremely tight volumetric tolerances; the Bosch Simos 18 ECU automatically adapts individual cylinder fuel trims via the wideband lambda sensor.

QWhat causes Low-Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI) related to GDI injectors?

When an injector drips or fails to atomize gasoline into fine droplets at low RPM (1500-2500 RPM under boost), liquid fuel washes into the cylinder boundary layer and mixes with engine oil droplets. This mixture auto-ignites before the spark plug fires, creating pressure spikes exceeding 150 bar that fracture piston ring lands.

QSay this to the shop: How do I test for a leaking injector before removing the manifold?

Ask the technician: 'Please hook up a diagnostic tool, bring the engine to operating temperature, shut it off, and monitor rail pressure decay. If rail pressure drops rapidly from 40 bar to zero within 2 minutes and a bore-scope shows liquid wetness on cylinder 3 piston crown, we have confirmed an injector leak without unnecessary disassembly.'

Diagnostic Trouble Codes & Fault Protocols

Common diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) triggered when this common rail injector experiences wear, circuit faults, or calibration drift:

P0087Critical

Fuel Rail / System Pressure Too Low

Excessive internal backleak from worn control valve seats drops common rail pressure below target under engine load.

P0201 - P0208High

Injector Circuit Malfunction / Open Circuit

Solenoid coil resistance drift (0.2-0.5 Ω) or piezo stack degradation triggers driver stage shutdown on affected cylinders.

P0300 / P0301+High

Cylinder Misfire & Balancing Deviation

Carbon-clogged nozzle spray holes or missing IMA calibration causes uneven cylinder contribution. Recode ECM and verify washer seating.

P0088High

Fuel Rail / System Pressure Too High

Spill line backpressure or stuck metering valve prevents rail depressurization, creating overpressure risks under load.
