Product Overview

WORKSHOP NOTICEECU Calibration / IMA Coding Required

This injector requires 6-8 digit calibration code programming (IMA / QR code) into the vehicle ECU (using Bosch KTS, Lexia/Diagbox or equivalent diagnostic equipment) following replacement to balance cylinder fuel delivery and prevent DTC P0300 misfire codes.

The Hitachi 12697966 (GM OE 12641847 / 12633492) is the genuine original equipment high-pressure mechanical fuel pump for General Motors 2.0L Turbo LTG, 2.5L LCV, and 3.6L LGX SIDI engines. Mounted directly on the rear of the cylinder head and actuated by the exhaust camshaft lobe via a roller lifter, this pump delivers 200 bar (2900 psi) direct injection pressure. Failure triggers extended cold cranking, engine stumbling under full throttle, and diagnostic trouble codes P0087 and P0089.

Before You Order

OIL DILUTION & ROLLER TAPPET SCUFFING HAZARD: On GM 2.0T LTG and 2.5L SIDI engines, worn internal high-pressure pump plunger seals allow pressurized liquid fuel to leak past the cylinder head into the crankcase. This causes severe oil dilution, thin oil viscosity, and catastrophic rod bearing failure. Furthermore, always replace the roller lifter (GM OE 12612289) during pump replacement; installing a new HPFP on a scored camshaft lobe will ruin the new pump immediately.

Matched High-Pressure Fuel Pump (Fuel Circuit Assembly)

Operates on the same high-pressure rail circuit. When troubleshooting low rail pressure (DTC P0087), verify pump volumetric delivery before replacing injectors.

Installation Tips

Tools needed: 10mm socket, extension, and ratchet for pump flange mounting bolts, Torque wrench calibrated for 10-35 N·m range, Line flare wrench for high-pressure fuel pipe union nuts, Clean engine oil or assembly lube for roller lifter and O-ring seal, Eye protection and absorbent shop towels for high-pressure fuel release

  1. Disconnect battery negative terminal; remove fuel pump relay/fuse and crank engine to relieve static line pressure.
  2. Wrap shop towels around high-pressure fuel line fitting and slowly loosen flare nut to bleed residual rail pressure safely.
  3. Disconnect electrical wiring connector from the fuel metering spill valve solenoid.
  4. Disconnect low-pressure fuel feed line quick-connector from pump inlet.
  5. Loosen the two pump flange bolts alternately in half-turn increments to relieve camshaft spring tension evenly.
  6. Extract pump from cylinder head; remove roller lifter GM 12612289 and inspect for surface scoring or bearing play; replace if worn.
  7. Clean mounting bore thoroughly; coat new pump O-ring seal with clean engine oil.
  8. Rotate engine so the camshaft driving lobe is on its base circle (lowest lift point).
  9. Insert lubricated roller lifter, seat pump square, and thread mounting bolts finger-tight.
  10. Torque mounting bolts alternately in two progressive steps to 12 N·m plus a 45-degree angle turn.
  11. Thread high-pressure steel line flare nut by hand to prevent cross-threading; torque nut to 30 N·m.
  12. Reconnect low-pressure feed line and wiring harness; cycle key on 3 times to prime system and check for fuel leaks.
Tips & Warnings:
  • Camshaft Base Circle Mandate: Always rotate engine so the driving cam lobe is at its lowest position before torquing pump bolts to prevent binding internal plunger.
  • Mandatory Oil Flush: If replacing pump due to gasoline smell on dipstick or rising oil levels, flush engine oil and filter immediately to protect rod bearings.
  • Roller Lifter Inspection: Always renew the roller lifter alongside the pump; a worn lifter flat spot will gouge the new pump plunger within miles.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes & Fault Protocols

Common diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) triggered when this common rail injector experiences wear, circuit faults, or calibration drift:

P0087Critical

Fuel Rail / System Pressure Too Low

Excessive internal backleak from worn control valve seats drops common rail pressure below target under engine load.

P0201 - P0208High

Injector Circuit Malfunction / Open Circuit

Solenoid coil resistance drift (0.2-0.5 Ω) or piezo stack degradation triggers driver stage shutdown on affected cylinders.

P0300 / P0301+High

Cylinder Misfire & Balancing Deviation

Carbon-clogged nozzle spray holes or missing IMA calibration causes uneven cylinder contribution. Recode ECM and verify washer seating.

P0088High

Fuel Rail / System Pressure Too High

Spill line backpressure or stuck metering valve prevents rail depressurization, creating overpressure risks under load.
